EAN-8 code is type of 1D barcode that developed from longer European Article Number (EAN-13) code. EAN-8 bar code encodes GTIN-8s which are another set of product identifiers from GS1 System. It begins with 2 or 3 digits GS1 prefix, 5 or 4 digits item reference element and a checksum digit. This barcode used on small packages like cigarettes, chewing gum packets etc.
